Random stuff percolating in my brain
(aka too much Red Bull)

I just don't get racism and prejudice. I can't wrap my brain around it. Is it that much of a mental stretch to see that every single group of people on earth has both good people and jerks, idiots and geniuses? It just seems so obvious to me that you can't overgeneralize about an entire race, religion, etc. Maybe I just need to stop reading the junk people spew on public forums *sigh*

Obama critics love to say stuff like, "Government created jobs won't stimulate the economy." I never really understood the logic behind this. Don't government jobs pay real money? And won't a lot of that money be spent on restaurants, electronics, cars, etc., just like private sector job money? Either way the economy gets stimulated. ALso, our infrastructure, once the envy of the world, is beginning to fall apart and that's just not something we can depend on private industry to take care of. It took us a long time to get into this mess (and I know that both Republicans and Democrats are to blame), and it's gonna take awhile to get out of it. Just seems like another no brainer to me.

Someone's been skinning and gutting cats in a couple of neighborhoods about 25 miles south of me. Sick bastards, I really hope they're caught soon.

In happier news, my brother is still keeping out of trouble, yay! He's actually working two jobs now and helping my dad with the rent. It's like invasion of the brother snatchers (but in a good way)!

Ok, I need to get ready for work, then a fun day with my gal pals, possibly involving a drive to the beach. Summer has definitely arrived here! Have a great weekend everyone...
Love,

"Kay"

Makes you want to cry that people can be so ignorant and mean, don't it?

New Mustang is still good, and still very red! :)

No, government jobs don't pay real money. The government has only three sources of income. 1) Stolen money from the general public (what they call taxes). In this case, you're taking the money that would actually do some good toward economic stimulus away from the people who would do the most good with it. 2) Borrowed money from other countries. You simply cannot get out of debt by borrowing more money. 3) Borrowed money from the federal reserve. This is perhaps a larger drain on our economy than the other two put together. The federal reserve is "federal" in name only. When you borrow money from the federal reserve, they simply go out and print more money, which has no real backing (just like all the other money in our economy). This is what they call inflation. And we (the American taxpayers) have to pay interest on this money that didn't even exist before! Please, tell me how this is good for anyone.

"Also, our infrastructure, once the envy of the world, is beginning to fall apart" due to wild and unchecked government expansion (see the big bailout and the auto industry takeover). You simply cannot solve an economic problem by taking more and more money out of the very economy you're trying to save! Nevermind that the big bank bailout itself wouldn't have even been necessary if the government hadn't put its hands into the business in the first place (by requiring the banks to lend out subprime mortgates).

"It took us a long time to get into this mess (and I know that both Republicans and Democrats are to blame)"
Perhaps the first correct thing you've said.

I'm not ranting against President Obama specifically. He's just another drop in the leaky bucket that is our government.

I agree with you that borrowing from other countries and using the federal reserve as a fake band-aid are bad, but I stand by what I said that we need the government to do certain jobs that private industry can't or won't do, and that the tax money should be able to make its way back into the economy via private spending of govt. employees. If that doesn't happen, the problem isn't in the taxes themselves but in the oversight. But then any system, even communism, would work in theory if not for basic human greed. I guess I just wish our elected officials would really act in the best interests of those they serve...but then again, with so many conflicting interests pulling at them, would that even be possible?

"any system, even communism, would work in theory if not for basic human greed."
I'll mostly agree with that. But without basic human greed, communism wouldn't even be desirable or "necessary."

"I guess I just wish our elected officials would really act in the best interests of those they serve."
You're asking too much from basic humans. We can't even get most of them to fulfill their campaign promises (the very reason they were elected in the first place).
