A Busy Saturday Morning
I brought Dwight (my accordion) to our Music Together class yesterday. I had worked up simple arrangements of three songs from the current songbook, and accompanied the class while they sang and danced. (I sang along where possible too, but was thinking too hard most of the time.) It was so much fun, I'm looking forward to doing it again sometime. I also want to bring the uke in at some point. After class we went to Verizon Wireless to look at the new Droid, which Laura went ahead and bought. (I'm officially jealous. I love my Samsung Flipshot, but man is that thing sexy.) The kids entertained the sales guys by pretending to talk on the dummy model phones throughout the store. One of the guys went in back and got a couple of discontinued models, and gave them to the kids as toys. They were so proud. They've been making pretend phonecalls on them ever since. Then, next door to Verizon is a Tae Kwon Do school, and they were celebrating their fourth anniversary with free food, demonstrations, a bounce house, and cake. The kids had a ball and wore themselves out. Riley was imitating the demonstrators, kicking and shouting an approximation of "hyah!" We got to thinking about how martial arts would teach a lot of the things that Riley needs most: confidence, discipline, focus. We spoke with the manager, and she was very supportive, saying they work with special needs kids all the time. She set Riley up with an instructor -- a teenage boy who surprised us by being really good with Riley. We signed Riley up for classes. He seems excited about it, we're hopeful he'll participate well. (Of course, as I typed this he was screaming his lungs out, in protest of being sent to "quiet time" for having screamed about having to wear non-preferred underwear because he wet his Spongebob ones. So we shall see. Rome wasn't built in a day and so on.) |

http://www.wexarts.org/fv/gateway/Wexner Center announces partnership with South Campus Gateway updated: November 15, 2009 Beginning in early January, the Wexner Center Film/Video program will begin continous programming of two screens within the newly christened Gateway Film Center's seven screens, essentially tripling the number of film screens at the Wexner Center's disposal. This means having access to an even fuller spectrum of film repertoire and allowing us to premiere more films at the Wex, which can then be immediately followed by their run at the Gateway. In addition, it allows Campus Partners to reconceive the entire Gateway theater venue to better accommodate the OSU community as well as local and regional audiences.
We believe this novel partnership underscores the Wexner Center’s standing as a unique and innovative film hub for the region, and will enhance our programming even further.
The films programmed by the Wexner Center will fall under the “Wex@Gateway” tag. Wexner Center members will receive member rates ($5) for Wex@Gateway films at all times and for other Gateway films shown Sunday through Thursday.
Watch our website for more updates and film screening information within the next month. This is a little neat but I'm kinda tired of my place of work changing hands every couple years. |

Writer's Block: Super-human
Shape-shifting. I mean, duh. I'm a furry and also often gender-ambiguous. I would love to be a different species or gender at whim! Incidentally, I was named after a shape-shifter from Star Trek. No joke. My mom with pregnant with me and on the look out for an appealing name when she watched the second season Next Generation episode "The Dauphin", in which an allasomorph named Anya guest starred. (Hell yeah I'm incredibly proud of this.) If I couldn't have shape-shifting, my close second choice would be telepathy. I have this weird desire to learn absolutely everything about the people I love, and I would give anything to actually get inside their brains and see what the world is like from their perspectives. Plus, I'm a big dork who stole pretty much all her notions of romance from Imzadi and I super love that Betazoids can form telepathic bonds with the people they love and project to them, even if their partner is not empathic or telepathic to any degree themselves. Being in contact with someone's mind in addition to their body just strikes me as ridiculously romantic. The same thing goes for Vulcan mind-melds... walking away from the experience with the essence and memories of the other person stored somewhere in your own brain? Gah. Current Mood: amused |

Time of reflection again...
In just a few short hours, it will be November 14th. The day that should have been Kevin's 57th Birthday. It has been on my mind for several days now. I can't even imagine him at 57 years old. Seems so old. Don't know why it seems so strange to me but it does. Mass on Sunday morning is in his memory for his Birthday. I'll definitely be going for that one even though I'm not crazy about the priest that is saying that mass. Maybe by some miracle it will be the other priest instead. Whatever though, I will be and thinking/remembering all the good times with Kevin. Even though it's been almost 6 years, I could still cry when I think about him. Some wounds never heal no matter how long it's been or will be. Just praying for some strength to continue on... EDIT: I've been going back and re-reading some of the entries in this journal. So many things have changed, some for the better and maybe some for the worse. All in all, it was kind of depressing with a few bright spots. But as they say, everything that you had to deal with in your past has made you who you are today. I hope that makes me a good person. Sure makes me think about how things are so different now. Would still love to make some positive changes in my life. I have some ideas that would help so now all I need to do is work on making them happen... Current Mood: restless |

Let's see how deep this rabbit hole goes--
The plot thickens. http://www.ditchthetech.com/ has a new video today. http://wipethefuture.com/ has been changing on a daily basis. Two days ago, it read: "IT'S NOT OVER" then, yesterday: "BE CAREFUL TODAY!" Today? "FIND HER! HURRY!" and a code-key apparatus. If you successfully glean access, the following message appears: "Sara at Spectrin Heiti is Key" Sara at Spectrin: http://spectrin.com/emeritus.html Read through their whole website and am still uncertain as to what they actually do! Probably a fictional company as well. Heiti?: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heiti Ahaha, I'm not certain how this applies. (Heiti possibility #2?: http://www.biologyimagelibrary.com/fullImage?imageID=50189&subjectID=5012§ionID=5028&topicID=5198) Additionally, a new account apparently tied in to the Dollhouse ARG has appeared on Twitter: @ AlexfromPR whose blog link points here: http://alexandradawson.wordpress.com/ Wherein she claims responsibility for the Rossum Corporation's website. Noticed a similarity between the girl in the blog's header and the girl in Ditch the Tech's new video. Asked about it via Twitter: czgoldedition: @AlexfromPR Is that you in the video? Looks awfully like the girl in your blog header, I'd say! AlexfromPR: no it's not me. yes it looks like me, but someone must be playing a trick. i don't know what's going on Also from a bit earlier: czgoldedition: @AlexfromPR Found you via @DitchtheTech - are you going to help save the world from Rossum? AlexfromPR: @czgoldedition why would i save the world from them? they're our clients and a wonderful organization that does so much good! I am ridiculously entertained by all of this. ----- ETA: via JenskiJen on Whedonesque: Sara Kingsley is also the character name of a doctor in Star Trek: The Next Generation. She was the head physician at the Darwin Genetic Research Station in 2365. She led an experiment to produce "superhuman" children who would be immune to virtually all forms of disease: source. ETA2: Time travel is definitely involved, ahaha. Anything "Sara Kingsley" wrote couldn't be referred to in de Chardin's writings as her biography claims, since he lived in the World War I era. Unless we're dealing with an unnaturally long life span a la the "upgrades" offered by Mr. Ambrose...? Current Mood: blank |

They've been tearing down the old City Center for awhile but I just finally took some pics.
There are also some great photos of the destruction of the building at http://www.downtowncolumbus.com/progress/columbus-commons-demolition-octoberThey were also able to get inside when the empty stores had been gutted. It's worth checking out. Some of my first Columbus memories are of City Center. It was a wonderful mall in it's heyday. |

Stumpbox
Hey everyone, I know it's a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone had an idea of where I could get my hands on all/any of the Stumpbox recordings. There're a lot of covers I'd love to hear, especially TMBG's takes on Willie Nelson songs. Thanks, Hunter |

Did I fall asleep?
I... I think the Rossum Corporation just tried to have me remotely wiped. I just got off the phone with Tif when literally a minute later my phone rang, displaying a number I didn't recognize off hand. Out of curiosity, I answered the call. A pre-recorded message (which was difficult to decipher at points in time) informed me how much Rossum valued all its shareholders and told me to please hold. Suddenly the audio cut to garbled static, followed by a message instructing me to await further contact and to have a bright future. I fear I may have been imprinted with sleeper code. Avoid me from now on, a few choice words and I could end you. And whatever you do, don't mention flowers in any capacity. I'm sorry Topher - I picked up the phone. Current Mood: blank |

I am magical. I got tomorrow afternoon off, so I think I can make it out to the city before 4pm and meet up for TMBG instore goodness. I should, uh, buy their kid's book, then, huh? I wonder if they still claim coffee as their lifestyle choice. Peets free coffee cards ahoy! Oh, speaking of coffee lifestyle choices, I and my assistant manager think that the dumbass shift lead who shouldn't have bred might have tried to steal $20 from my till and blame it on me. THIS could get interesting. |

No. Just no. Ughhh I feel sick. I haven't been sleeping and I've ingested so much sugar and caffeine today I feel like terrible and I have so much homework to do and fuck it all Dollhouse is canceled. BUT IT IS STILL COMING BACK ON THE AIR TO FINISH ITS SECOND SEASON RUN. WATCH IT ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 4TH ON FOX 8/7c AND 9/8c.And then once it's over in January, assuming all hope is indeed lost and it does not somehow magically come back for a season 3 due to the awesome ratings it WILL get in December because we are going to advertise the piss out of it (RIGHT GUYS? YEAH, I THOUGHT SO. DO IT, DO IT NOW)... once it's over, IF it's over, I will never ever watch a show on FOX again. Ever. In my life. Current Mood: sick |
